MONDELEZ INTERNATIONAL

/fail fast - fail early

Challenge

To design, commission, and make operational the new Design Lab incorporating 3D Printing equipment, ID and packaging visualisation tools and small batch production equipment. The grant funded Design Lab sits within the Food Innovation Centre, which is home to ANZ's largest food research and development team, based at Mondelez's (formally Cadbury and Kraft Foods) Asia-Pacific Chocolate and Confectionery Centre of Excellence at Ringwood.

Solution

Within nine months qDesign Enterprises took an empty space and converted it to a leading edge 3D Printing and design centre to serve Mondelez and local SME’s. Major tasks included specification and commissioning of all equipment in a purpose-built space, development of SOP’s and design workflow and recruitment of key design staff. Systems introduced to allow the Lab to integrate into the Mondelez Global Design network, local Consumer Insight and innovation teams as well as external SME’s wanting to develop a product for Asian export food markets.

Michael was given the challenge and opportunity to set up and commission the new design lab/studio within the Food Innovation Centre at Mondelez International. From day 1, Michael's diligence, work ethic and strive for excellence has now resulted in a state of the art facility that has been in operation since late 2013.
